Obaapa Development Foundation recognizes that gender inequality is the fundamental cause of poverty that significantly derails the development of women and children who are often at the receiving end of the scourge. And the most enduring way to fix this global challenge is to effectively educate, inspire, empower women and girls as well as continuously advocate for change in policies that impede their advancement.

Out of the desire to change this odious narrative by effective campaigning, capacity building and education, and having worked in the development space for several years (producing social documentaries, leading developmental projects/programs; advocating with and connecting Queenmothers to development partners etc), Nanahemaa Adjoa Awindor founded the Obaapa Development Foundation as the social responsibility wing of Premier Productions Ltd. in year 2010, and officially registered it as an NGO in 2013.

Obaapa Development Foundation is a Non-Government Organization established with the aim of supporting the development of women and children in Ghana through advocacy, capacity building, programs, and projects. Generally, ODF is committed to improving the quality of life of women and children.

The Foundation works closely with International and local NGOs, CSOs, government institutions and agencies, traditional leaders, policymakers and media houses to educate, empower women & girls and influence gender policy change. This is done through organizing programs, mobilizing leaders and communities, facilitating dialogues and connecting actors to share ideas, experiences and knowledge on relevant issues.

ODF’s work is grounded in the principles of Human rights contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Goal 4 & 5 of Sustainable Development Goals, and other regional and national instruments such as the African Charter and the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

Since its inception, ODF has built a successful track record in its areas of work; and has gained recognition as well as generated significant interest in Ghana especially among Women Cultural Leaders who have been encouraged to be innovative and dynamic in their dealings with their communities.

Notable among the traditional interest groups formed and nurtured by the ODF are the Unity Queens and Advocacy Queens. Unity Queens is a network of amazing Hardworking Queenmothers and Royalty who are empowered to impact their communities positively.

Advocacy Queens is a subgroup of Unity Queens with a special focus on campaigning on key gender issues through community engagement, who devote their Time, Knowledge, Skills, Resources and Finances to empower women and girls across Ghana.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

An ace media personality and a development Queenmother, Nana Adjoa Awindor was already trailblazing in her field of endeavor (Photography, documentary & film production, tv host, Multimedia Trainer, Women and Children Advocate etc) and in the development space working on different development programs and connecting Queenmothers to development partners and embassies as the CEO of Premier Production Limited when she hatched that idea to formally establish an organization that will lead in the advancement of women and girls.

Her vision was to make a difference in the lives of women and children whom she believes are at the center of abuse and discrimination of all kinds.

From that revolutionary idea, Obaapa Development Foundation was founded as the social responsibility wing of Premier Productions Ltd., in year 2010 and registered it in 2013.

Over the years, the foundation has succeeded in reshaping the way community leaders, especially Queenmothers care for their girls by building their capacities in leadership and Cube Convos. ODF further started one of its flagship projects, the Teenage Mothers Back to School Project…
