Decision To Include Queen Mothers In National House Of Chiefs Is Commendable –
Nana Adwoa Awindor
The president for the African Queen and Women Cultural Leaders's Network (AQWCLN), has commended government for taking initiatives to include queen Mothers in the National House of Chiefs. Nana Hemaa Adwoa Awindor said it is a good start for government to decide to accept women cultural leaders into the National House of Chiefs.
The minister of Chieftaincy Dr. Siedu Danaa had earlier this year reiterated that government is developing a legislative instrument in order to give legal backing to the inclusion of queen mothers. She said the involvement of queen mothers is critical in issues of national interest. Nana Hemaa Awindor was hopeful that this move will come into fruition soon considering the fact that the National House of Chiefs is currently dominated by male chiefs.
In an interview with host of Radio Univers’ Pan African programme, “Inside Afrika” Nana Hemaa Adwoa Awindor further stressed the need for cultural women leaders to be educated.
She believes this will aid such women leaders to understand the course of their leadership roles. “Every opportunity we get we add something to ourselves, because you really cannot give what you don’t have” she added.
Nana hemaa Adwoa Awindor, who once hosted the popular television show, “Greetings from abroad” and doubles as Development Queenmother of Afigya-Kwabre District, was elected the First President of the Continental Executive Board of the African Queens and Women Cultural Leaders Network (AQWCLN) in Uganda in 2013.
