'WALKING THE TALK'
OBAAPA Development Foundation extends support for Teenage Mothers in South Tongu District and other communities...
On Tuesday 29th October, the OBAAPA Development Foundation (ODF) Team successfully screened, counseled and selected 10 out of 12 Young mothers to join our *Teenage Mothers Back To School Project*
Some supportive stakeholders including Queenmothers (headed by Mamaga Adjesu II, Paramount Queenmother of Sokpoe Traditional Area), Teachers and Parents from Sokpoe in the South Tongu District in the Volta Region of Ghana joined us for the exercise.
This brings the total number of beneficiaries across the country to 70 Young Mothers who have been re-enrolled back to school after giving birth.
There are 30 more to be processed this year in Ketu South District and Asogli State in Volta Region and Akwapim South in Eastern Region..
ODF's target is to enroll 200 Teenage Mothers by the end of year 2020 and a full project target of A 1,000 Teenage Mothers Back to school by 2028 ... So help us God! ...
The project offers educational assistance to Teenage Mothers who have dropped out of school due to early childbirth. Most vulnerable girls who get into such situation either do not want to go back to school and need to be encouraged, or do not have the resources at all.
ODF pay fees where applicable and provide logistics such as school clothes, bags, books, shoes etc .... to the needy ones, to enable them re-enroll.
To us at ODF, this is an amazing strategy (in our small way), to contribute to the Global effort to END CHILD MARRIAGE and also ensuring that our Girls stay in school.
Many thanks to all our Partners, Families and Friends who have been part of this fulfilling journey.
We have a lot more to do and we plead all hands on board...
